From companies, to privately owned accounting businesses, and even in the FBI. So long as there is money, accountants are needed. Why Accounting?Accounting has always been in the back of my mind as a career. My dad is an accountant and he has his own accounting firm called Schonhardt & Associates. I have spent a lot of time in his office learning about accounting and business in general. By owning his own business, my dad has a lot more flexibility when it comes to office hours. Plus, accounting uses technology extensively and a large part of the job is working on a computer in Excel. Another reason accounting has interested me is because I am good at working with data. Throughout school, I've always liked math and numbers and that is the basis of accounting. What I Like About Accounting
Schooling for AccountingBeing an accountant only requires a bachelors degree. However, to be a certified public accountant, you must pass the CPA exam. Passing the CPA can open up a lot more doors when it comes to jobs in accounting. Could I Find Myself in Accounting?I can see myself in accounting. It's math based and it can aid in my everyday life. For example, being in this career means I will have a better understanding of how to do taxes than if I chose a career in healthcare. Also, accountants with with many different computer programs so I would have a greater knowledge of these programs. However, accounting is more so a safe career option for me. It is a family career, starting with my dad and now my brother and sister are studying accounting too. I like the career and I have no problem pursuing a career in accounting but for now, I think I would like to try speech language pathology. In the end, I think it will come down to whether or not I take interest in what I'm studying and my classes. I won't really know if I truly like the career I'm in until I start immersing myself in the major.
